A tour to Hoover Dam from Las Vegas is an easy 1/2 day to see one the greatest feats of American engineering, and now includes one of the USA’s most impressive bridges. Renting a car and driving yourself with the GyPSy Guide Driving Tour App is easy and offers far more flexibility than taking a bus tour.

Starting on the Las Vegas Strip, on the way out to the Dam, we can quickly call in at the Ethel M’s chocolate factory for some sweet sampling.  When we arrive at the Hoover Dam after less than one hour driving time, you’ll have the option to further explore deep inside the power plant operation with the official Dam walking tour.  Plus we’ll be able to walk onto the incredible Bypass Bridge for superb views and photos back to the dam wall.

On the drive back to the Las Vegas we have the option to detour through the community of Boulder City or to visit the Clark County Museum with its surprising collect of Las Vegas memorabilia and vintage gaming machines.   To get back to the Strip we follow along the base of Black Mountain with views to the length of the Strip and we’ll hear stories about when the Mob ran Las Vegas.

Hoover Dam is an easy short day trip from the casinos and shows you a little of what Las Vegas features, off the Strip.

The tour takes you from the Strip to Hoover Dam where you should allow at least an hour to explore the massive dam wall and take lots of photos. Its highly recommended to also walk onto the Bypass Bridge for fantastic views back to the Dam. There are more sightseeing options on the way back to Las Vegas.

Can we do Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon in one day?

Yes – its a fun full day of sightseeing to go to the Hoover Dam and the West Rim of the Grand Canyon in one day. If you want to do both, its better to download the Grand Canyon West Rim tour as it includes the Hoover Dam portion.

What should I bring?

Its important to keep charging your device as you drive and we recommend using a DC cigarette lighter-style of charger. Plugging directly into the vehicle’s USB port is not recommended.
