KAMLOOPS TO BANFF – GYPSY GUIDE
This GyPSy Guide Driving tour is the second half of the drive from Vancouver to the Lake Louise & Banff area at the southern end of the Canadian Rockies National Parks. Many travelers choose to use Kamloops as their halfway point for an overnight stay. After leaving Kamloops, we follow the TransCanada Highway #1 all the way.
After leaving the desert-like landscape of Kamloops, we pass through the lakes region and then cross through several mountain ranges before arriving in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. There are quite a lot of recommended places of interest and you are encouraged to stop and enjoy many beautiful experiences along the way.
If coming from the Okanagan, you will join the tour at Sicamous. You will still experience 90% of the tour.
The tour only follows the highway. When you arrive in the Rockies, you should use the more detailed tours available to explore around the National Parks.
KAMLOOPS TO BANFF HIGHLIGHTS
There’s quite a few excellent places to visit as you transition from Kamloops in the BC Interior, to the Canadian Rockies National Parks. In Revelstoke and Glacier National and Parks there are some excellent short walks that have parking lots right on the highway and are highly recommended. The scenery is spectacular the whole way.

KAMLOOPS TO BANFF TOUR ROUTE MAP
Where does the tour start?
This tour begins by driving on Highway 1 eastbound from Kamloops. The first commentary point is just east of where Highway 5 joins Highway 1. If driving directly from the Vancouver to Kamloops leg, the commentary will let you know when to swap from that tour to this one.
Does this app provide a tour of Banff National Park?
This tour only follows the highway. Its designed to provide a tour to get you into the Park and the its main town or Banff. There is a fantastic amount of sightseeing to do inside the national parks and we have designed tour that specifically do that. When you arrive in the Rockies, you should use the more detailed tours available to explore around the National Parks.
Check the Canadian Rockies section to see what those tours are.
Can I do this tour in the opposite direction?
No. Because its a long drive, this tour is specific for the direction of going from Vancouver and the west, towards the Rockies – so its important that you download the tour that matches your direction of travel for this sector. If you are traveling from the Rockies towards Vancouver, the tour that you will need is called Lake Louise to Kamloops.
What should I bring?
Its important to keep charging your device as you drive and we recommend using a DC cigarette lighter-style of charger. Plugging directly into the vehicle’s USB port is not recommended.
Gas is available in all towns along the way.
Always bring a jacket as weather can change quickly in the mountains. Sturdy shoes are recommended if hiking.
Don’t forget your smile and camera.
