LAS VEGAS TO GRAND CANYON WEST RIM – GYPSY GUIDE
The West Rim of the Grand Canyon is just 2.5 hours driving time and approx 120 miles from Las Vegas which makes it an outstanding full day trip to take from the Strip.
At the West Rim you can walk out on the famous Glass Sky Walk, perched 4000 vertical feet above the Grand Canyon floor for the most panoramic views. There are also a number of activities to participate that are included in your admission while visiting the Hualapai Nation. Others, like horseback riding and scenic helicopter rides, can be added.
Our tour route takes us to Hoover Dam along the way. It’s a great day to combine both of these fantastic attractions. It’s best to try and get an early start to fit everything in.
GyPSy Guide Driving Tour App will provide commentary all the way to the Grand Canyon, and then all different stories to keep you entertained for the drive back to Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS TO GRAND CANYON WEST RIM HIGHLIGHTS
This tour begins right on the Strip in Las Vegas. You have the option to visit Hoover Dam first and then continuing on to the Grand Canyon. Because we must come back to Las Vegas the same way, there is all different commentary for the drive back.

LAS VEGAS TO GRAND CANYON WEST RIM TOUR ROUTE MAP
Indicate our suggested start locations, or join the tour anywhere along the route and as you pass through the next point, commentary will trigger automatically.
Where does the tour start?
The tour starts in Las Vegas Blvd – the Strip. Drive southbound and the commentary starts as you pass by the MGM. The instructions will tell you to turn left on the south side of the airport, onto E Sunset.
All the directions you need are in the audio commentary. Expect to spend a full day to do this tour and return to Las Vegas. Its important to be driving out of Las Vegas no later than 10am so you have enough time to visit the canyon before the site closes.
Which is better West Rim or South Rim?
South Rim is the original and best known location to view the Grand Canyon. Since the West Rim location has been developed for a visitor experience, it has halved the driving time to get to the Canyon from Las Vegas, which used to be 5 hours to the South Rim, one way.
The Canyon views are equally spectacular at the West Rim and it of course offers the opportunity to walk on the Glass Sky Walk. There is no overnight accommodations at the West Rim – its a day trip only. If you’ve never seen the Grand Canyon before, the West Rim provides those incredible views.
What's the cost to visit the West Rim?
There are entrance/legacy fees to visit the Hualapai Nation and Glass Sky Walk. Visit https://www.grandcanyonwest.com/ for further details.
This includes access to 3 different areas at the canyon location, transportation to get from site to site and a meal. Its important to know these costs in advance so you are not surprised when you arrive.
Pre-booking additional activities like helicopter sightseeing is strongly recommended.
What should I bring?
Its important to keep charging your device as you drive and we recommend using a DC cigarette lighter-style of charger. Plugging directly into the vehicle’s USB port is not recommended.
Fill up your gas tank and bring some snacks & drinks for the drive.
It can be very hot at the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon so bring water and sunscreen. Some of the short trails to view points are a little rough so bring comfortable footwear.
