ALBERTA DRIVING TOURS ROUTE MAP
What to Expect
Alberta could be mecca for roadtrippers.
Endless long roads with stunning mountainscapes and rolling prairies, wildlife, quaint towns and a rich history of explorers and pioneers.
Most visitors are here to see the Canadian Rockies with their towns of Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper located inside the National Parks. And the Icefields Parkway drive connecting Lake Louise and Jasper has been designated as the “World’s Most Beautiful Mountain Drive”, for good reason.
If you are driving across the US border via Montana, allow some time to meander through Alberta’s southwest. Waterton National Park is less crowded, but offers the same rugged scenery and wildlife watching opportunities as it’s neighbour, Glacier National Park (on the US side).
Yes, the towns along Highways #2 and the Cowboy Trail #22 have antique stores and art galleries. But they also have great places to sample Alberta beef, in steaks, burgers or jerky, a distillery and even a Mexican food truck. The Frank Slide and Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site are also nearby.
If you are an amateur paleontologist, have small kids, or enjoy world class museums, then don’t miss a trip to Drumheller, home to the Royal Tyrell Museum and a chance to dig for dinosaur fossils in the surrounding badlands.
Combined all the apps; Banff to Calgary, Banff Townsite, Banff – Lake Louise – Yoho, Icefields Parkway, Jasper, Waterton and Alberta SW and Drumheller have over 1100 commentary points with stories, tips and directions to guide you throughout Alberta.
Purchase the apps that match your itinerary. You could easily plan for 2 weeks, allowing 1 week for the Canadian Rockies, and another Alberta SW and Drumheller. Check out Travel Alberta’s roadtrip itineraries for ideas.

Where does the tour start?
Each tour app has recommended starting location instructions. Or you can launch the tour and join anywhere along the route.
What should I bring?
Its important to keep charging your device as you drive and we recommend using a DC cigarette lighter-style of charger. Plugging directly into the vehicle’s USB port is not recommended.
Fill up your gas tank and bring some food & drinks. Wildlife spotting can be excellent in Waterton National Park so having binoculars is recommended.
Don’t forget your smile and camera.
